A note from the British Council

The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities. We create international opportunities for the people of the UK and other countries and build trust between them worldwide.

Arts has been a cornerstone of this mission for more than 80 years, finding innovative new ways of connecting with and understanding each other through the arts, to develop stronger creative sectors around the world that are better connected with the UK.

The Creative Economy team supports new collaborations, learning and policy development within the rapidly changing creative and digital industries worldwide. We provide the space, tools and connections for people from different backgrounds to test imaginative ideas, learn new skills and tackle social and civic challenges together. We aim to build long-term systemic change for a more prosperous, equitable and sustainable creative future.

Our partnership with Watershed enables us to share Playable City’s creative and collaborative approach to rethinking public space internationally. Through this platform we’re looking forward to learning how Playable City ideas are being interpreted around the world. We will connect Playable City projects with our local Arts teams and, where appropriate, we can provide connections, raise awareness and generally help make things happen.

For more ambitious projects with potential to make a huge impact, we can provide advocacy, links to major partners   and in certain cases provide resource and funds to support delivery.
